Last week we released scoped API keys, which let customers manage one or more Paubox products with a single key.

We then extended the functionality of Paubox Forms to our 10 SDKs, the Paubox CLI, and the Paubox MCP Server.

In other words, a Paubox API key can both send HIPAA compliant email via Paubox Email API, as well as provision HIPAA compliant forms via Paubox Forms.

In this post, we show you how to create a HIPAA compliant form within Claude Chat, via the Paubox MCP connector.

Step 1: Sign up and create a Paubox account

It’s free to sign up

Step 2: Add and verify your domain

Once you have a Paubox account, go to the Settings > Domains page and add the domain you’ll be sending from.

Paubox verifies domain ownership via your domain’s SPF record. Paubox will display the SPF value to add at your DNS provider (e.g., Route 53, Cloudflare, GoDaddy). Add or update the SPF record in your domain’s DNS, then return to the Settings > Domains page and click Verify.

Step 3: Generate an API key

From the Settings > API Keys page, click on the domain you would like to generate an API key for, then press the Add API Key button. Give the key a description and make sure Paubox Forms is checked. A new key will be generated upon submission.

Make sure you save your key because if you lose it you will have to generate a new one.

Step 4: Add Paubox MCP connector

In Claude.ai, open Settings > Connectors. Click Add > Add custom connector.

Enter this in the Remote MCP server URL field:

A Configure Paubox form opens automatically. Enter your API key.

Click Save. Claude stores your API key as a secure token and sends it on every request.

Claude will discover the available Paubox tools automatically.

Step 5: Add a form via Claude Chat

Next, enter a prompt like this in Claude Chat:

Prompt

help me create a Paubox form with two questions

You'll then be prompted to enter in more data to complete the request.

When finished, your new form will appear in the Paubox Forms Drafts tab. Click the form, then click Publish in the upper right corner.

Pau! Your new HIPAA compliant form is now live.
