Email encryption is broken, with too many steps required for users to send and view emails. The result is a vulnerable system open to cyberattacks that costs individuals and companies billions of dollars each year.
We want to secure every email by increasing the adoption of encryption. We do this by putting the user experience first, but not at the expense of security. We want to start with the healthcare industry, which is under attack by hackers who value the personal health information of patients.
Hoala has 21 years experience in the email industry, dating back to his first job out of college at Critical Path in San Francisco in 1999. Prior to founding Paubox, Hoala founded Pau Spam in 2002 in Honolulu. It was Hawaii’s first commercial email filter and was likely the first cloud SaaS company in Hawaii as well.
Hoala is an avid kayak fisherman, having caught two blue marlin from his Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro. He also holds an IGFA world record for the finescale triggerfish.
Hoala has written more than 600 blog posts on HIPAA compliant email, SaaS, and startup life.
Rick has over 11 years of sales and marketing management experience. He is an expert at building data-driven, integrated marketing campaigns that drive growth. He graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a BA in English and a MBA.
Scott brings with him over 4 years of experience building and leading sales teams from scratch, including building out the sales development team for an Inc 500 company. He has worked in the AdTech and Healthcare industries. During his time in healthcare, Scott spent time evaluating all of the players in the space making him uniquely adapt to further drive revenue for Paubox. Wong was born and raised in Hawaii, attended Punahou School on Oahu, and holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
In his spare time you can find Scott seeking out the next tastiest bite, awesome movie, or anywhere that involves getting in the water.
Pete has been running Customer Success and Support for growing tech companies since 2005, and is passionate about delivering an exceptional customer experience. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he worked for startups in Boston and New York before moving to San Francisco.
Pete spends his free time planting trees in SF and hiking in our National Parks.
Evan graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a bachelor's degree in Economics. After college he moved to the bay area and began working as an EPM consultant implementing budgeting and planning systems. He worked on several end-to-end implementations involving reporting and analytics, driver based budgeting, people planning and subscription based models. In his free time he enjoys playing basketball, golfing and traveling.
Emir is a hands-on executive and software engineering leader, who loves all aspects of software creation. He has extensive experience in building high-performing software engineering teams, and has hired more than 50 people in the last 6 years. He has worked in the Geospatial, Financial, AdTech and Healthcare industries throughout his career. Emir enjoys reading books in his free time and is an avid soccer fan, always cheering for his favorite team (Liverpool F.C.)
Greg received his Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2015. While enrolled, he served two terms as chapter president of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the largest fraternity in America.
Under his leadership, they were awarded the nation’s most improved chapter. Greg’s hobbies include photography, golfing, snowboarding, hiking and traveling.
Shannon was born and raised in Mililani, Hawaii, where he attended the University of Hawaii, majoring in Travel Industry Management. Since moving away from the Islands, he has made a career in the Business Development arena for nearly 20 years.
When he is not working, Shannon is busy with his non-profit work serving as the Vice President/Board Member of the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce of Northern California and on the Executive Committee for the City of Hayward’s Sister City Program (Funabashi, Japan).
Robert graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BS degree in Biopsychology. After college he lived in New York and Philadelphia before moving to the bay area in 2014. His previous experience includes roles as a Help Desk Technician, Web Operations Analyst and Data Manager. He likes to help empower people through the use of technology.
When Robert is not working, he enjoys playing the guitar, meditating, eating good food and spending time outdoors.
Lisa graduated from California State East Bay with a BA in Liberal Arts and minor in childhood development. Prior to joining Paubox, Lisa held roles in childhood development, education, and customer success.
When Lisa isn’t working, you can find her baking, hunting for the world’s best chocolate, and traveling to new cities.
Justin has been working in customer facing roles for over a decade, and is passionate about providing consistent and positive customer experience. In previous roles, he has built and restructured operations at companies, hired and trained customer facing teams, and helped build and test hardware and software solutions.
In his free time, Justin enjoys painting, cooking, and drawing.
Chloe’s experience with startups has shown her what to do, and what not to do, as an early-stage company. She watched WeWork grow from 40 to over 2000 employees during her 3-year tenure, experiencing both the benefits and pitfalls of exponential growth. She first met Hoala and the team when she worked for 500 Startups, shepherding companies through their accelerator program - one of which was Paubox.
Chloe's hobbies are knitting, crocheting and teaching her cat circus tricks.
Over 20 yrs experience in a variety of industries with accomplished skills in Purchasing, Sales, Account Management, Project Management, Customer Service, & Business Development.
Steve enjoys family, outdoors, biking, and drawing, among many other things.
PJ was born and raised in Sandusky, Ohio, which is home to the world famous Amusement Park, Cedar Point. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Business Management. After college, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to joining Paubox, PJ worked for a Medical IT Company. He has an extensive history in sales and customer service, and loves to work closely with our customers. He also works as a Licensed Real Estate Agent.
When PJ isn’t working, you can find him spending time with family and friends, boating, going to the beach, and traveling.
Blaine Kaho'onei is a techie, an entrepreneur, an investor, philanthropist and kanaka maoli. He is an 18 year veteran in the software industry. Leaving Hawai'i in 1999 for opportunity in San Francisco, he's played roles in Customer Support, Sales, Operations, and Channels for start-ups before building his career at a pre-IPO Salesforce in 2004.
Originally from Japan, Yuka co-founded 2 tech start-ups in Hawaii. She then directed the State of Hawaii government’s innovation policies as the executive director and CEO of the High Technology Development Corporation, where she implemented innovation initiatives, drafted legislation to enrich Hawaii’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, led their incubation centers and mentoring programs, and advised executive teams of both startups and established companies globally.
Now residing in Silicon Valley, she has acted as an interim executive for startups and advises founders through her consulting firm, Paideia Enterprises. She is currently the President of Astia, a nonprofit that levels the playing field for women entrepreneurs by providing access to capital and networks for the companies they lead. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Reed College.
An educator and entrepreneur. He offers guidance to student entrepreneurs around the country, delivering his presentation “Lessons from 15 Silicon Valley Startups – 1979 to 2015” and holding subsequent one-on-one meetings with students.
Coleman has been operating or board level founder of 15 companies, four of which have had IPOs (Symantec, Visoneer, Neoforma, and Financial Engines). He has angel invested in 55 startups – life science, healthcare, and IT. He has earned three engineering degrees from MIT and a Ph.D. in management from Stanford University.
Raised on a farm in Knoppieslaagte, South Africa, Dean moved to the United States to be a pursue a career in music eventually finding his way to the tech world. Dean is currently the Chief of Culture of Mad Mimi Email Marketing and a Director of Online Support at GoDaddy.
A serial entrepreneur based in San Francisco. He has wide expertise in consumer mobile applications, travel, humor, and user communities. He currently helps mobile developers build better apps at Facebook.
Siana Austin Hunt is the Director of Corporate Philanthropy, overseeing the philanthropic and community development arm of ALTRES, Hawaii’s leading outsourced HR and Staffing agency that has served local businesses for 50 years. Hunt is tasked with the challenge of developing not just a philanthropy plan, but also a comprehensive, multi-faceted program whose cornerstone is leadership development across Hawaii in the communities ALTRES serves. In addition to directing the ALTRES Foundation’s vision, she will lead Foundation deployment on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
Hunt brings with her an impressive history in the nonprofit field and was previously the president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Hawaii from 2011 to 2018. Under her leadership, Make-A-Wish Hawaii increased wish granting from 35 to 100 Hawaii children each year and granted another 1,300 wishes for mainland children (Hawaii is the second-most requested Wish destination). In 2017 alone, the organization generated over $15 million of in-kind revenue to grant wishes for children around the world and increased their employee count from three to more than 30 staffers and recruiting 800+ volunteers to handle this dramatic increase in wish fulfillment.
In 2013 Hunt was awarded the Pacific Business News’ Nonprofit Business Woman of the Year Award and was invited to complete the Weinberg Foundation Fellowship. In 2017 Make-A-Wish Hawaii was recognized with the Infinite Wish Award honoring innovation and lasting impact in wishes granted ranking them best in class among Make-A-Wish Chapters nationwide. In 2015 and 2018 Make-A-Wish Hawaii was named the nonprofit recipient of the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award that recognizes industry excellence.
Born and raised on Molokai and Oahu, Hunt is a Punahou High School graduate, earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Pepperdine University and Executive Education at Harvard Business School. She resides in Honolulu.
