10Xing the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship

10Xing the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship

Here is the current state of the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship:

  • Starting with a single recipient in 2019, Nick Wong, the scholarship has expanded to 62 recipients.
  • $163,000 in scholarships have been awarded
  • Of the 62 recipients, 14 have graduated from college, including Nick.
  • The scholarship is now a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to the scholarship fund are tax-deductible.

My ambition now is to 10X the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship. This post explains how I arrived at this goal.

Earlier this year I attended a Pacific Century Fellows gala at the ʻAlohilani Hotel in Waikiki. It was a sold out event, with well over 500 people in attendance.

The PCF program is a leadership training program founded by former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann. He based it on the White House Fellows Program, which he participated in during the 1980s.

Listening to opening remarks, I learned that since its creation in 1996, PCF now has an alumni network of 500 people.

As I looked out across the crowded ballroom, I thought to myself, "That's it! We'll do that for the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship. We'll 10X it and do an event like this."
