Paubox customers: Paubox Zoom social mixer (May 2025)

Much of the discussion in the May Zoom social mixer centered on new Paubox features like SMTP API and Paubox Forms.

What happened

The May social mixer was a free-flowing discussion amongst healthcare IT professionals. We covered topics like Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies and MDM software, Paubox Forms use cases, Healthcare email marketing tips, and government healthcare initiatives.

Our takeaways:

  • The Social Mixer began with a discussion of Paubox's brand-new SMTP API.
    • Customers asked us to build a HIPAA compliant SMTP API so they can take advantage of Paubox Email API without the need to bring in developers.
    • SMTP API could work with forms, on-prem software, and even some printers.
    • Paubox SMTP API is easier to set up, as it works with any SMTP-compatible server or application.
    • Attendees wanted to know if the SMTP API worked with Google Forms.
  • Most attendees felt BYOD policies incur too much risk and recommended issuing managed devices secured by software like Venn or Kandji.
    • Attendees shared stories of stolen devices in which remote device management software allowed them to wipe the device immediately.
  • In healthcare email marketing, getting customer attention can be difficult. Negative subject lines work, but it isn't always the right approach.
    • Consistency is important in both frequency and design.
    • Consider increasing frequency and measuring unique opens per month, rather than the percentage opened of each email.
    • Attendees shared feature requests and feedback about automated email marketing.
  • Paubox Forms has many use cases.
    • One attendee uses forms to collect release forms for their athletes, doctors' notes, and vaccination forms from students.
    • Another attendee uses Paubox Forms to gather info from new hires.
    • Some attendees didn't know people can upload multiple documents to one form field.
  • People want confirmation that EMR and health info will not be shared with government registries.
  • We discussed an upcoming Paubox report based on a survey of 150 IT professionals in healthcare:
    • Over 80% of survey respondents said they fail to maintain HIPAA compliance due to IT staff shortages.
    • Most of those surveyed were confident that staff would follow protocol after identifying a suspicious email, but attendees felt this was overly optimistic.

The bottom line: Customers count on Paubox to help keep their emails HIPAA compliant and save time managing inbound email security challenges.
