The Paubox Kahikina Scholarship helps Native Hawaiian students pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and Tech in general. Kyrie Bartolome was one of the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship 2021 recipients and is now attending the Oregon Institute of Technology, studying toward a general ultrasound degree. Here is a word from Kyrie Bartolome:
“Aloha, everyone! My name is Kyrie Bartolome, and I am one of the recipients of the 2025 Paubox Kahikina STEM Scholarship. I recently had a career change and am now pursuing my Bachelor’s in Applied Psychology at the Oregon Institute of Technology. I anticipate finishing my degree in March 2026.
Throughout my journey, I have wanted to positively impact my community by helping individuals cope with mental health challenges and disparities. I have a preference for serving individuals who have been neglected or abused, and I am committed to advocating and helping them receive appropriate treatments.
Starting this November, I anticipate on working with Hope Services Hawaii in Hilo, where I will be a student intern assisting with therapy to individuals in emergency shelters. Moreover, my hope is to further my experiences in the mental health fields by working with Hilo Juvenile Probation, supervising juveniles on probation by offering intake, screening, and counseling services.
As a recipient of this scholarship, I am forever grateful for Paubox’s support to continuously support Native Hawaiian students on their journey to pursuing their college education in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields (STEM). Knowing that this organization is willing to support students like me is very rewarding and makes every moment of college worthwhile. Receiving this scholarship has taught me that there is room for growth and that I can always make a difference in my community.
