Paubox Kahikina Scholarship Recipient 2022: Dylan Dinio

The Paubox Kahikina Scholarship helps Native Hawaiian students pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and Tech in general. Its purpose is to offer financial support and create a strong network for these students. The scholarship makes education more affordable and connects students with professionals, giving them valuable opportunities to learn and grow in their chosen STEM or Tech fields. This scholarship is about more than just money; it's about building a community and empowering Native Hawaiian students to succeed in STEM or Tech careers.

As a 2022 scholarship recipient, Dylan Dinio has been studying computer science and game development at Northeastern University. Here is an update from Dylan Dinio:

“Aloha! My name is Dylan Dinio and I’m a part of the Paubox Scholarship 2022 Cohort. I currently attend Northeastern University and am studying Computer Science and Game Development. Since my last update, I feel like I was able to grow so much in my Computer Science career and am even more excited for what’s to come.

This past year I was able to join a software development club called Sandbox which has allowed me to gain valuable hands on experience in developing web applications and meet amazing, hard-working individuals. We have many different projects within the organization and I was a part of a team called GraduateNU, a website designed to help students create their plans of study. This was a project that has been development for a few years and I was very excited to be a part of the team and help finish development for the Beta Release this year. Working under a project lead and other students, I acquired hands on experience working with tools such as React.js, Docker, and yarn. The website was released this year and gained over 1.5k unique visitors within the first few weeks.

I also served as a TA for our Accelerated Fundamentals of Computer Science 2 course here at Northeastern hosting office hours and providing feedback to our class of 50+ students. Working with senior TAs and my professor was a fun time and I was able to teach myself so much through teaching others.

Lastly, I stayed involved with the culture clubs I’ve been a part of here on campus. I remained active in our university’s Filipino Organization and participated in our end of year showcase. Aside from that, this year Hawaii Ohana at Northeastern University (HONU) successfully entered our school's Pan-Asian American Council (PAAC). I served as one of our Outreach Heads and worked together with the other members of e-board to host joint events with Asian-American orgs on campus as well as plan our yearly luau. With the new support from members of the PAAC Community this year's luau was one of our biggest turnouts in history with a full turnout.

Currently, I’ll be entering my third year of college and have already started my Fall co-op at AutonodyneLLC in Boston serving as a Software Engineer Intern. I’m very excited to be working here and know I’ll be learning so much. Once again thank you so much to Hoala Greevy and the Paubox Scholarship team for helping me to pursue my education.”
