Is Paubox compatible with Olypen?

Last week we got an email inquiry from a full service security company in the Pacific Northwest. In their email, they told us they were seeking a HIPAA compliant email solution and that Olypen was their current email service provider. Their question to us was: "Does your service pair with Olypen?" This post will discuss whether Paubox is compatible with Olypen or not.

 

Olypen

Olypen is an internet service provider specializing in servicing the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. In addition to providing bandwidth, they also offer web and email hosting.

 

Olypen and the Business Associate Agreement

We’ve previously talked about how a Business Associate Agreement is a written contract between a Covered Entity and a Business Associate. It is required by law for HIPAA compliance. Since Paubox is a HIPAA compliant email encryption solution, we first need to ascertain whether Olypen, as the underlying email hosting service, is HIPAA compliant or not. We checked Olypen’s site and were unable to find any mention of HIPAA, Business Associate, or Business Associate Agreement.

 

Does Olypen Offer HIPAA Compliant Email Hosting?

The Business Associate Agreement is a key component to HIPAA compliance between a covered entity and a business associate. We quickly discovered that Olypen makes no mention of offering any type of HIPAA compliant hosting. As such, Paubox is not compatible with Olypen.

Conclusion: Paubox is not compatible with Olypen Email Hosting.
