What contributes to the existence of potential biases

A recent paper in JAMA Network Open discusses steps taken by a panel of researchers from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). They convened to establish guiding principles aimed at mitigating and preventing these biases. These principles emphasize fostering equity throughout the healthcare algorithm's life cycle, ensuring clarity and understandability of algorithms, involving patients and communities in all phases, addressing fairness issues explicitly, and implementing a system of accountability for equitable results.
