Sam Parlett creates custom data on demand

I had dinner with Sam Parlett (Arrakis co-founder) at Pabu Izakaya in San Francisco last night.

What’s happening: It was my first time meeting Sam in-person, as he initially reached out to me on LinkedIn. Startup life is returning to normal.

Why it matters: I remember Sam Altman saying something along the lines of: being in San Francisco allows a tech CEO to level up by 1% each month. Over time, it compounds.

My takeaways:

• Sam Parlett re: data sets: "The ‘old world’ way of data is a static data set that's accessed on-demand, where it's the same for every customer. Every customer gets the same data set and it's always slightly out of date. The ‘new world’ model is at the moment you think about something, you're able to request a new data point to be created that's custom to you in terms of surfacing exactly what you want. It's also fresh because it's made for you in real time. We’ll get to a point where you don’t even have to request it, you’ll have your own personal AI that’s constantly feeding you new relevant data. That's where everything is heading."
• Sam saw good ROI by attending the 2022 HLTH conference.
• Arrakis and Paubox will be at ViVE Nashville later this month.
• As you'd imagine with a name like Arrakis, Sam is a big Dune fan.

The bottom line: Silicon Valley is intellectually intoxicating, thanks to the people it attracts.
