Paubox Kahikina Scholarship Recipient 2021: Kawehi Cabuzel

The Paubox Kahikina Scholarship helps Native Hawaiian students pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and Tech in general. Its purpose is to offer financial support and create a strong network for these students. The scholarship makes education more affordable and connects students with professionals, giving them valuable opportunities to learn and grow in their chosen STEM or Tech fields. This scholarship is about more than just money; it's about building a community and empowering Native Hawaiian students to succeed in STEM or Tech careers.

As a 2021 scholarship recipient, Kawehi Cabuzel has been studying environmental studies at USC. Here is an update from Kawehi Cabuzel:

"Aloha, my name is Kawehi. This is my summer 2023 update for Paubox Kahikina scholarship. I'm just gonna update you guys on what I've done this summer and changes and what I'm going to be doing this coming semester. I'm currently a USC student, going into my junior year, on track to graduate in 2025, I've changed my major from economics to environmental studies.

And I hope to sort of add on a minor in landscape architecture. The switch mainly comes from sort of my interest in sustainability and fields such as agriculture and sort of energy, which I've sort of discovered over this past couple of summers. I hope to sort of explore that field further in the coming semesters. So that's the biggest change that is happening this coming year.

For summer, been pretty busy and pretty fun. For the first half of the summer, I was in France doing a study abroad program where I finished my sort of last level for my language requirement, which was awesome. It's in the beautiful city of Dijon. Uh, yeah, like the mustard, great mustard. But like, that's the real stuff over there. Have that. It's awesome.

After that I came back home, currently working, having fun, going to the beach, camping. All the lovely stuff and just sort of enjoying these last couple weeks before we head back into the fall semester.

And that's about it. I want to thank everyone at Paubox for this opportunity and for bringing everyone together. And allowing me to further sort of my pursuit in education and making it a lot easier for me and my parents. I also want to say congratulations to the new recipients. Yeah, I hope you all have a great year and I hope to see you guys at the meeting, hopefully this winter, if there is one. Yeah. So Mahalo Nui, stay safe and see you."
