Coffee at Local Joe with Doug Shimokawa

Paubox customers at a coffee shop social meetup

I caught up with Doug Shimokawa at Local Joe this morning in Honolulu. I hadn't seen him in a couple years, so it was good to catch up. Doug is now Senior Vice President at Pacxa, one of Hawaii's largest providers of full-service IT Solutions. They are also one of the larger Oracle and Microsoft partners in the state.

Here are some of my takeaways from our coffee meeting:

  • Email DLP (Data Loss Prevention) support requests within Microsoft 365 often come from needing help configuring it.
  • Agrees that allowing the customer to create DLP rules via regular expressions (regex) is not ideal.
  • Could see Inbound DLP as a need for certain types of enterprise customers.
  • Microsoft and HP are heavily pushing their Partner programs for top tier Resellers.

Doug also went to Yale with Michael Seibel, who is now CEO at Y Combinator.

Local Joe is owned by Charles Asselbaye and his wife Amy, a former chief of staff for former Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie. It's located in Honolulu’s Chinatown district. Cathy Luke recommends getting The Ripple on my next latte there. Will do!
