Migrating to Paubox SMTP API

Written by Hoala Greevy | May 03, 2025

Earlier this week, we released Paubox SMTP API, which allows customers to take advantage of Paubox Email API without requiring developers.

In this post, we'll show you how to migrate to Paubox SMTP API.

Migrating from Paubox legacy SMTP Server

Paubox SMTP API replaces our legacy solution for sending HIPAA compliant email via SMTP Server. If you are a Paubox legacy SMTP Server customer, here's how you migrate to the new platform.

First, your existing settings look like this:

  • Hostname: api.paubox.com
  • Username: <username>@api.paubox.com
  • Password: <password>
  • Port: 587

Next, generate a new API key for Paubox Email API. Make sure to have the 40 character key available.

Now change your settings to look like this:

  • Hostname: smtp.paubox.com
  • Username: apikey
  • Password: <enter your 40 character API key>
  • Port: 587

Note that the username will always be apikey.

Voila! You are now using the new Paubox SMTP API platform.
