Dreamforce 18 MuleSoft integration keynote: My takeaways

Written by Hoala Greevy | September 27, 2018

I attended the MuleSoft Integration Keynote speech yesterday for Dreamforce 18 in San Francisco. Salesforce acquired MuleSoft earlier this year for $6.5B, their largest acquisition to date.

Naturally, I wanted to learn more. Here were the speakers (in order of appearance):

  • Vidya Peters, MuleSoft Chief Marketing Officer
  • Greg Schott, MuleSoft CEO
  • Mark Dao, MulseSoft Chief Product Officer
  • Jane Moran, Global CIO, Unilever
  • Reema Jain, IT Director, Unilever
  • Mike Berger, Vice President of Health Informatics & Data Science, Mount Sinai

Here are my takeaways from Integration Keynote: MuleSoft Connects Every App, Data and Device at Dreamforce 18.

Mulesoft CMO Vidya Peters focused the crowd's attention around "changing the clock speed of your business."

"Trust is our number one value." Mark Dao

MuleSoft CEO Greg Schott mentioned how they view themselves as the engine of digital transformation. He also delivered one of the shortest jokes I've ever heard: "Two APIs walk into a bar...."

The concept of reusing APIs in the MuleSoft Exchange was a focus point.

I was impressed by how tightly MuleSoft involved their customers into their Customer Success keynote.

For Unilever, agility, speed, and cost were large factors in their buying decision.

As Unilever has 2,000 business apps in use, Jane Moran joked her job title is actually "Chief Integration Officer."

“The problem with point-to-point [integration] is you can’t scale up.” Reema Jain

A desired outcome for Mount Sinai was "to create frictionless experiences.” In other words, too many portals!

Mike Berger of Mount Sinai was aptly suited for the Metallica concert later in the evening.

Vidya Peters ended the keynote with a nice CTA (Call to Action): Visit their booths!

Dreamforce is always packed.

This is what happens when 170,000 people attend a conference in San Francisco.
