Here's an update from one of our 2021 recipients, Kawehi Cabuzel.

Kawehi Cabuzel: Aloha mai kakou, my name is Kawehi Cabuzel. Before, I guess, I start my little blog update, I just want to thank Paubox forgiving me this opportunity. It's been super beneficial for me and my family, allowing me to pursue higher education and giving me the chance to interact with super inspirational and knowledgeable mentors that I can use in the future. So thank you for that, I appreciate it a lot.

For some updates on my school year, my first year at USC is finished, it's been a amazing year obviously having pros and cons but overall, I think it's been a good experience for me. In terms of academics, I think I'm still gonna pursue an economics degree in study. The first year has been a little slow, it wasn't the most interesting. But you realize it's sort of the foundational information before you move in or move on to something more specified, specialized. But yeah, academics, there's been some good classes on the side like oceanography. I kind of enjoyed my writing class for the first time in my life. Yeah school has been great.

For clubs I've sort of joined the rowing team, rowing club. A lot of hard work, we wake up early every day. We have regattas on the weekends, so i'm pretty busy. But yeah I've met amazing people through that group and it's been an awesome time with them. Struggling, working out, you know traveling long distances to go race for like, five minutes; it's just been a fantastic time. Over the course of the year though, I've sort of gained interest in other things such as agriculture and mariculture, surprisingly. But yeah unfortunately there isn't much study for those at USC, it's more science and business-based school. But there is a couple minors that might sort of and help me out in pursuing those interests.

For example, what is it called, biology or I guess environmental science is the closest it will get to those type of things. But yeah, sort of over the years, I've sort of found this interest for you know, I guess being a little more sustainable growing your own food; being more conscious of where you get your food from. And yeah, so I just started a garden in my backyard this summer, it's been fun, interesting. You find out you can do things for cheap, some things are expensive. So it was a good lesson.

I've been getting into diving as well, just to reduce how much I buy, I guess. Even though, I don't buy groceries but you know in the future. I want to limit, you know, possibly limit, but still be conscious not to take too much and stuff like that. But yeah, school has been great. Finding that minor is difficult, but I'm not sure whether I should find something that accompanies my economics interest, or you know, something I just, that branches off and follow something completely random. But there's so many options for me, it's hard to pick sometimes. But yeah, I'm really looking forward to this coming year at USC. I'm not sure where it'll take me, but I'm sure it'll be somewhere that I will hopefully be happy with at the end.

Again, I just want to thank Paubox for the opportunity, it's really been an amazing year, and without you guys it would be much more, a much more, a much harder time for my parents. Yeah, so thank you so much, I hope you all have a good year, and hope to see you soon. See ya.
