Innovation and technology during COVID-19: Vail Health at Paubox Spring Summit 2021
We are pleased to announce that Susan Ibáñez, Chris Lindley, and Julie Jackson, from Vail Health, will be co-keynote speakers at the Paubox Spring Summit 2021, taking place on Tuesday, April 6. The one-day virtual event will provide relevant content from thought leaders in cybersecurity, healthcare, and compliance about unidentified risks, best practices, and innovative solutions. Instead of the typical sales pitches, attendees will be able to interact with speakers and other attendees during Q&As and remote networking opportunities.

About Susan Ibáñez

Ibáñez is the chief information officer at Vail Health, a nonprofit, community healthcare system in Colorado’s Eagle and Summit counties. Within the system are a 56-bed hospital, a 24/7 emergency care facility, and other specialty services and clinics. Currently, Vail Health also offers COVID-19 testing, care, and vaccinations. Ibáñez has over 20 years of healthcare leadership, IT leadership, project management, and operational leadership experience. She has also worked in similar positions for Memorial Hermann Health System and Driscoll Children’s Hospital. With a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and business, as well as a master’s and doctorate of healthcare administration, her experience with information technology (IT) in healthcare is extensive. Ibáñez is also a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

About Chris Lindley

Lindley is the chief population health officer at Vail Health. He is also the Vail Health COVID-19 incident commander and the executive director of Eagle Valley Behavioral Health. Before his current positions, he was the director of Eagle County Public Health and Environment, taking a collaborative approach to address gaps in healthcare. “Many of us grew up wanting to change the world,” said Lindley. “My goal is to change the way we look at and treat behavioral health in the Eagle River Valley.”

About Julie Jackson

Jackson is the director of applications & informatics for Vail Health. She has been with Vail Health for over four years and is also a registered nurse working with COVID-19 patients. As Vail Health’s IT director, Jackson is developing and managing strategic applications, informatics, and analytics to provide better patient care, promote smarter spending, and help keep people healthier. Throughout the past year, she has also been setting up facilities for Vail Health’s COVID-19 response.

Innovation and technology during a pandemic

This keynote presentation at the Paubox Spring Summit is titled “A Valley of Innovation – Rapid Adoption of Technological Solutions to Address COVID-19.” In an interview from March 2020, Lindley stated that Vail Health (and Eagle County) was already creating and utilizing a system for COVID-19 testing. This is because they had the personal protective equipment (PPE), testing media, and infrastructure in place from the beginning. Examples include:
  • Moving from a limited daily COVID-19 testing site to accurately handle patient registration and scheduling while also doubling daily throughput
  • Cutting staffing requirements by over 50% while improving patient experience
  • Figuring out how to rapidly adopt technological solutions to work across multiple health systems and electronic health records

Vail Health’s collaborative and integrative environment has been essential to its management of the virus on the local population.
