We gave out 500 bowls of kalua pig and rice today in the Mission district of San Francisco. It was a privilege to be able to do it for a second year in a row.
Last year, we gave out 100 spam musubi and 100 pairs of socks at the same BART station (Mission and 16th Street). This time we chose the number 500 to celebrate our recent graduation from 500 Startups, a leading global venture capital seed fund and startup accelerator. We have also reached the 500 customer mark.
It was raining in the morning, but fortunately the skies cleared up by the time the kalua pig arrived from Grindz Restaurant.
Kalua pig is a staple of Hawaiian cuisine. It’s traditionally a pork shoulder butt rubbed with sea salt, wrapped in ti leaves, and slowly cooked in an imu (underground oven).
It’s always fun to share a little of Hawaii whenever we get a chance. We know people back home love it too!

Overall, it was a great way to kick off the holiday season and the event provided good camaraderie among our team.
We look forward to continued growth in 2017 and finding more things to celebrate =)
