Challenge

There are a lot of challenges for any doctor who runs a private practice, from dealing with insurers for payment to making sure the printer has enough ink.

But one of the biggest challenges is realizing the benefits technology provides in an ethical way. Even something as simple as sending an email comes with legal and ethical obligations that practices need to consider.

That’s exactly what Katie McBride, Ph.D. did when she wanted to improve the efficiency of her communications with patients and other providers.

Solution

Before enabling HIPAA compliant email with Paubox, Dr. McBride was limited in how she could communicate with patients via email. “With regular email servers, any and all contact with clients carried a risk for breaches,” said Dr. McBride. “My practice policy had to limit e-communication to routine scheduling.”

After doing her research, Dr. McBride chose Paubox Email Suite Plus so she would no longer have to worry about what she included in an email. Since Paubox encrypts all emails by default, any and all email Dr. McBride sends is now seamlessly secured.

Results

In the past 12 months alone, Paubox has encrypted all 1,240 emails that Dr. McBride has sent. Since Paubox encrypts all emails by default, no one had to spend any time wondering about whether or not to encrypt an email; it was done automatically. And all the email recipients had to do was click "open" to read an email - no password or portal required.

Paubox has also blocked 13 emails containing viruses and 5 phishing emails, which just goes to show you that even small practices are not safe from cybercrime.
