Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Paubox better than other solutions?

Paubox Encrypted Email is designed for ease of use for both senders and their recipients. Eliminating extra steps, like plugins, keyphrases and portals. Paubox is also the only email encryption solution to meet HITRUST CSF certification, which means it meets key regulatory and industry-defined requirements.

What is a user?

A user is defined as one email address such as you@yourcompany.com. Aliases and email groups you set-up on your email provider are not counted.

How much is it for just a single user?

Our minimum subscription $30/mo with annual billing, which gives you 3 users. Many customers with small offices set up their own personal work email and general company ones like info@yourcompany.com.

Which email hosts work with Paubox?

Paubox works with G Suite, Office 365, and Microsoft Exchange. Most of our customers who operate individual practices use G Suite and Office 365. You can sign-up for G Suite here, and Office 365 here. Many domain providers like GoDaddy also resell G Suite and Office 365. Be sure your email host provides a Business Associate Agreement.

Can I keep my email address?

Yes! If you have a business email address that ends in your business domain (like @yourbusiness.com), you can keep it. Paubox integrates with G Suite, Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange.

If I have a G Suite or Office 365, why do I need Paubox?

G Suite and Office 365 both signs Business Associate Agreements, but they only cover emails within their server and at rest. Paubox ensures your emails are secure in transit outside of their servers.

How do my recipients know my email is encrypted?

Every email includes an icon and message in the footer identifying that Paubox secured the email. Additionally, recipients can look at the header and see that each relay was secured with 256-bit AES encryption.

What if I don't have a business email address?

If you use a consumer email provider, like @gmail.com or @yahoo.com, then you need a business email in order to be HIPAA compliant. Consumer solutions are not compliant and shouldn't be used to send emails with PHI. Make sure the email system you use will sign a Business Associate Agreement with you and emails are encrypted at rest. You can sign up for G Suite here or Office 365 here.

What happens if the recipient's email system doesn't support TLS encryption?

If a recipient's mail server is not setup to handle encryption, we automatically convert the message into an encrypted message via a secure https URL, you don't have to do anything! In order for the recipient to view your message, they must either click on the “Click here to view” or “View Message” button. If the recipient replies to this message, the reply is always encrypted.

Can I use my smartphone with Paubox?

Yes, you can use your smartphone and your favorite email apps. Paubox can also easily be setup on tablets and smartwatches with no proprietary apps or downloads needed.

Are my attachments encrypted?

Yes, all attachments are encrypted.

Are replies to my emails encrypted?

Yes, all replies to your emails will be encrypted in transit.

Are there any fees for a Business Associate Agreement?

No. All customers receive a Business Associate Agreement for free.
