The mission of Portland Mental Health & Wellness (PMHW) is to provide mental health care founded on connection, healing, and growth. As part of that mission, the team offers training for mental health professionals.
PMHW staff consists of psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, counselors, and trainees. As such, when the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak hit the Pacific Northwest, they immediately sought to leverage new technology to provide value to the community.
We’re communicating how we want to keep everyone as safe as possible. So if you’re not feeling well, don’t come in. If you don’t want to come in but you want to be seen, you can do video. It’s more the logistics of how to stay engaged in treatment given the current circumstances.Brad Larsen-Sanchez, Licensed Psychologist & Owner of PMHW
For example, the company instituted additional cleaning and sanitation measures in the office and shared the Oregon Health Science University’s resources for coronavirus and COVID-19.
In a world without Paubox, Brad Larsen-Sanchez, a licensed psychologist and owner of PMHW, surmised that secure patient outreach would “probably not happen all that easily, or at all.”
Brad plans to send more secure emails to his patients with updates about the increased health and safety precautions at his office.
He’s also planning to share additional information about health insurance in regards to remote video counseling.
For Brad, easy-to-use HIPAA compliant email was the primary value proposition that convinced him to become a Paubox customer.
Prior to Paubox, Brad considered using Virtru for his practice. He soon discovered, however, “their system required users to log in and create a user password to read our emails and just no one would read them.”
Seeking to avoid the friction imposed by Virtru, Brad’s decision to use Paubox was a no brainer.
In the past 12 months, PMHW has sent over 290,000 encrypted emails on behalf of 56 employees. Since Paubox encrypts all emails by default, no one had to spend any time wondering about whether or not to encrypt an email; it was done automatically. And all the email recipients had to do was click "open" to read an email - no password or portal required.
